Uterine Diffuse Leiomyomatosis

• Age: 28 years old
• Gender: Female

– Exam:-

• MRI pelvis

– Findings:

•   Sagittal T2 and T2 fat sat. show diffusely enlarged uterus with its parenchyma nearly replaced by innumerable small nodules which blend with each other.

-Teaching Point:-

• Diffuse uterine leiomyomatosis is a benign and extremely rare condition in which there is near complete replacement of the myometrium by innumerable poorly defined, confluent nodules.
• The etiology of these neoplasms is not completely understood.
• Hysterectomy is the treatment of choice regardless of the age of the patient.
• Uterine artery embolization is nowadays an alternative therapy.

Additional Pearls:

• The diagnosis was confirmed by surgical pathology.
• The uterus with the mass looked like Pomegranate (gross pathology).
